Brecon Motors | History Of Brecon Motors
The name Brecon Motors is one of the oldest names in the motor trade in Brecon.
We are located in the market town of Brecon or the Welsh name Aberhonddu. The name dates back to the late 1930’s, as was then Brecon Motors, many vehicle makes were sold including Austin – Morris – Land Rover – Jaguar – Vauxhall Bedford – Massey Ferguson Tractors – and farm implements.
As the years followed it became part of the Oliver Rix Group of companies, and known as Brecon Motors (Wales) Limited.
Mr and Mrs John Williams of Williams Garage Cwmdu and Williams Coaches, came to acquire the company and it’s premises in the early 1970’s and with a car dealership selling Vauxhall Bedford and Opel cars in Cwmdu some 14 miles from Brecon, the decision to move the operation was on hold until 1985 when Brecon Motors (Distributors) Limited was formed. With a considerable amount of redevelopments, including a new road known as Rich Way, which is named after one of the former founders of Brecon Motors Mr Ray Rich, The road off the Watton leads to the Canal Basin and Theatre serves a new part of Brecon.
